For this project, I wanted to create a skateboard magazine cover that could stand on its own or in animated format for digital advertising. Santa Cruz does not have its own magazine, but their iconic screaming hand fit the playful and surreal vibe I wanted for this cover. 

The final animation. I wanted to create a looping gif that put an emphasis on the logos, both the hand and the Santa Cruz lettering. I enjoy the subtle jumpy and jittery aesthetic I created as it adds a layer of texture that reminds me of cut paper. 

The final cover without motion media. The type placement and lettering is inspired by traditional skateboard magazines. 

My initial thumbnails. I really wanted to push the Bigfoot riding a skateboard idea as it let quintessential skater to me. The idea for a skateboard magazine cover design came later. Most of this early exploration was to consider dynamic poses, potential motion components, and skateboard design ideas. 

In progress sketch. At this point, I had decided I wanted to proceed with cover design. The central composition remained pretty similar in final, but the type placement moved significantly after referencing the typical design of skateboard magazines.
